We did a pair and share with these two books.  "Bad Dog Marley", is a humurous story about a loveable dog and his adventures with the family.  The students related their own family stories to this book and loved every minute of it.  Then we read a non-fiction book titled "Me and My Pet Dog".  Of all the books we have read, this one generated the most discussion and excitement from the students.  They loved this book and they all had a personal story or comment they wanted to make.  The students were all laughing as they left the library after hearing about the dog who became the world's first Multimillionare dog.  He was left millions by his owner (True Story) . Needless to say the students were gathered around the "600" Dewey section to find a book.

 

This is also a great book to highlight for third grade as one of their lessons in the "Tell Me About It Introduction to the Ten Classifications of Dewey."
